Danialle was out-of-town last weekend, and I didn’t have any weddings, so I filled the void by grabbing my camera and CTA fare card and traveled to Wicker Park for a photowalk. Riding on public transportation nevers ceases to surprise me with just how odd people can be.
For some reason I talked myself out of wearing a hat only to have direct sunshine (not a cloud in the sky) cook me all day.
Took my sister-in-law, Jamie, to a nearby park last Sunday for some quick maternity shots of her second pregnancy. Believe it or not, she is 8 months pregnant. I can’t wait to meet my new nephew or niece!
Last weekend, Danialle and I went to a birthday party for our friend’s daughter, Arli. The party was butterfly-themed and was held at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, which has an indoor butterfly haven (super cool). We both had a blast and enjoyed watching all the kids playing. Arli is such a cutey.
It’s strange to think that this time next year, we’ll have a six month old to add to the mix.
Wielding her magic wand, Arli threatens to transmute Coen into a frog.

A great portrait of my mom recently found in a box of family photos.
Today is the 7th year anniversary of the death of my mom. I recently found the photo that you see above in a box of family possessions. Even though the photograph is in terrible shape, it still radiates my mom’s amazing personality. And check out those wicked cool glasses. She had a fatal heart attack at the age of 46.
Despite every year that passes by, it still feels like yesterday.
She may not be a part of this world, but I can still feel her surrounding me.
Mom, in case you have multidimensional access to the Internet and are reading this:
I LOVE YOU!

I’ve gotten a little behind on the blog and I’m starting to feel guilty. My workload lately has been very crazy. At one point, I was working a full-time job and two part-time jobs. But hopefully the zenith has been reached for the time being. So… without further ado, here is a quick post to settle the stomach.
Last weekend, I had a chance to finally dabble with a roll of white seamless paper I bought a few weeks ago. Didn’t have a model (Kaboom had had his fill of the strobes earlier that evening), so I grabbed some props and shot myself.
An absolutely amazing resource on high-key lighting using white seamless paper can be found here.
Neat little toy from tokidoki that I picked up last weekend. Each Pup comes in a mystery box, so you will not know which Pup you’ll get until you open the box. Cute as a button and only 1 inch tall.
If you live in Chicago, you can buy them at Hazel. Great store!
Danialle shows off her new clear spectacles. (click to enlarge)
Danialle got some new spectacles today. She had LASIK eye surgery several years ago, but over time, her vision regressed. Instead of going back to get a free adjustment, she opted to get glasses again. I can’t say that I blame her, sorta feels like she dodged a bullet the first time she had the corrective surgery.
During Danialle’s LASIK surgery, I sat in a leather swivel chair on the other side of a glass wall that seperated the viewing room and the operating room, and watched the whole process magnified on a huge plasma screen monitor. Her LASIK surgeon was super cool. He rocked-out to the Beatles while performing the surgery and gave me a video recording of Danialle’s operation after he was finished.
Masonic ring worn by my grandfather (click to enlarge)
This was my grandfather’s Masonic ring that he wore for as long as I can remember. When he passed away this year, I was given possession of it. It will remain in the family for future generations.
